MARIETTA - As Congress moves to renew the federal No Child Left Behind Act this year, one of the law's original authors is pushing to change some aspects of it that have given Cobb educators heartburn the past few years.

At the state level, state Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell) brought Cobb teachers and staffers together with Georgia Department of Education staffers in Atlanta Thursday to voice similar concerns about No Child Left Behind.

Ms. Morgan set up the meeting after educators shared with her their frustrations during an Austell forum she held with Cobb principals last month.

"Relationships were formed," Ms. Morgan said. "We are going to see some movement."

Tribute to Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Lowery

On October 19, 2006 a birthday tribute and roast was held for the tenacious “Dean of the Civil Rights Movement”, Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Lowery at Morehouse College. Hundreds turned out to celebrate Dr. Lowery’s 85th birthday and to honor him for his life and legacy. Our very own Alisha T. Morgan had the privilege to pay homage and tribute to Dr. Lowery among actor Harry Belafonte, comedian Dick Gregory, former governor Roy Barnes, Congresswoman Maxine Waters and City of Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin. Rep. Morgan’s tribute was truly one of heart-felt homage and honor. She was quoted and referenced in the Washington Post article released Friday, October 20, 2006. Rep. Morgan’s tribute to Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Lowery was presented by her in a way that only she could. To read the article please click here.

I liked the old version, but this looks pretty good.
Eh, I could take it or leave it -- just give me the information, and I'm fine.
I'm not really feeling the new look.
Blech! Can we have the old 'Morgan Messenger' back, please??
